It's not quite correct to say that Jennifer and her sisters were banned by their parents from having their ears pierced. In recent interviews, Jennifer has expanded on her earlier comments (on which that claim is based), and revealed that the rule was that they had to wait until they were 16 before they could have them done. She's also added that her younger sister, Susannah, broke that rule and had her's pierced without permission when she was 14, while her older sister, Melissa, never got her's done.

As for Jennifer, she didn't get her's done at 16 either. In fact, she didn't get them done until 1999, when she had them pierced for her part in the TV movie "Aftershock: Earthquake in New York". But, after filming was done, she let them heal up again and went back to just wearing clip-on earrings. She then had to get them re-pierced in 2006, specially for the earrings she wore to that year's Oscars ceremony, but again let them heal up again afterward.
