Replied to:  Is there an economic impact of lake effect snow? what is...
There is almost always a economic effect from any snow fall that has to be cleared from the roads.
Lake effect is snow fall produced when a cold wind (32 degree Far. or lower) moves across a body of water (above 32 degree far.). The cold air picks up the moisture from the water and deposits it as snow over land.
A Alberta clipper is a fast moving cold air system originating in the area of Alberta,Canada. A Alberta clipper can produce lake effect
Lake enhanced snow is a snow producing system that moves over open water, giving the system more moisture and the ability to deposit heavier snow over land.
