Save you? "No" it's a sign of respect! For jesus deserves our greatest respect in all manners. The sign of the cross is a good place to start and end.

I agree with scottd38, in that just signing the cross will NOT save you...

Two important reasons why this is true stem from the fact that "signing the cross" is an action by a human being (not God), and the cross itself is a shape invented and adopted by human beings (not God). Only God can save you, and the way He did that was by offering His only Son as a payment for the sins of the world...

He offers a way to join Him for eternity, but one must place one's whole trust in Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection...

The sacrifice was the payment, cleansing us. And the resurrection is the hope He gives us, that the same will happen for us...shed of Satan forever.

If you watch the priest as he officiates in absolution, then you'll notice that he only makes the sign of the cross when mentioning the "Son" in the holy Trinity.

The cross symbolizes the bridging of the gap between God and man (encouraging man to reach out to God - vertical - and to one another - horizontal) through Jesus Christ (who occupies the merge of the vertical and horizontal branches of the cross).

No. Signing of the cross in the forehead symbolizes Faith in Trinity (Triune God) thus a Catholic member.

We are born into this world by a natural birth in iniquity (Ps 51:5) We spend some of the first part of our lives as carnal (void of the Spirit)(Eph 2:3) If God so desires he quickens us to life while we are still carnal (Eph 2:5). Thats the only way we can be saved eternally, and not by anything we do.

We're already "quickened". Life is bestowed at conception, and a soul belongs to that developing fetus. It's born in a sinful state, through the inheritance of Adam's disobedience. The ability of that soul to survive the body's death is dependent upon where that soul's development has led.

A soul with no opportunity to learn and know about God is totally dependent upon dispensational mercy - abortions, children who die young, and those who live outside the reach of evangelism. If that individual has reached the age of accountability, the life the person has led will be important in the judgment - the morality they used will be the standard. Those hearing and responding to saving Grace, will be judged by their faith. Anyone having had the opportunity to hear of this saving Grace, and rejected it, has placed their soul in jeopardy. But, any who genuinely recognize Jesus as Savior and Lord (even at the last minute) will be covered by His sacrifice... God doesn't want that any should perish. But, since 'free will' has been bestowed on human beings, the responsibility for their actions has also been bestowed.

Forest12345, I see that you only quote Old Testament sources. Does this mean that the New Testament lends no information on this? How about these: Matt 7, Matt 13, Matt 19, Luke 10, John 14, Rev 2, Rev 20, Rev 21?
