Is it legal for a Customs Officer upon arrival in Australia to take laptop, camera and mobile phone away (40 mins) and to another place to check for content (away from my sight)?

Is it legal for a Customs Officer to go through my handphnoe asking questions (rudely) about pics on that camera? WHO is this? How long have you known them? Where are they now? etc etc
