All those things which grow on plants and are eaten comprise of vegetarian food.
But definition of good and bad is based on one's convenience because milk which does not grow on plants but is product of animals is taken as AMRIT by changing the definition of vegetarian food as per one's convenience. In fact milk and its byproducts are termed as lactarian food. So use common sense for defining various terms correctly.

Main reason behind not consuming NON VEG food is the KARMA which a soul goes through when a Living being is killed for sole purpose of TASTE.

Living beings are categorized according to their abilities:
starts from human being and ends at plants.

eating plants( vegetarian ) food also generates karma but thats the lowest form of karma which a Human should Bear for as to survive.

Milk is not NON-Veg product...its not extracted by killing or harming any animal. animals are fed proper diet so as to extract large amount of milk for human use.
