In the book, "The Priest Wonho's Memories of Admiral Yi" research seems to prove that the Nonitor and the Merrimac were not the first ironclads. In fact, it could be that Admiral Yi Sun-sin used a type of ironclad to beat the Japanese back from Korea in the Imjin War, 1592-98.
Does anyone have any information about this?
