In 1947 a unit of the Polish Army, the 22nd Transport Unit was demobilized near Edinburgh. They had a soldier-mascot, an Iranian Brown Bear called Voytek. The unit donated Voytek to the Edinburgh Zoo. He actually paraded with the unit in Glasgow. He died 22 November 1963. I have a couple of questions related to Voytek and the zoo.
1. I would like to know where he was buried?
2. What damage was sustained by the zoo during the war? My father told me a bomb had killed some animals there.
3. Are there photos of the zoo from that period?
Thank you in advance
