In 1922, Benedict Crowell, together with several other wealthy men, announced the start of a corporation called, The General Air Service. The company intended to implement regular dirigible service between Chicago and New York. Service was to begin in the summer of 1923 and be extended to the pacific Coast as soon thereafter as possible. The German company Schuette-Lanz was to build the dirigibles. Plans also called for future service to South America and Europe. Does anyone know what became of this company, which obviously never got off the ground, and why it wasn't developed?
