I'm trying to locate any birth or death records of my child's father who is from San Pedro Sula, Honduras in 1971 but I am having absolutely zero luck in English or Spanish. I am not locating his relatives either and I have both father/mother's last names as well as his sister's name who died as a child. Is this a result of the power change from British to Belize? If so, how in the world am I going to verify their birth, contact them for my boy, or complete our family tree? What can I do? Wouldn'nt there be records from the British? What about the goverment change happening within 10 yrs of his dad's birth? Did the tecord keeping procedures change or cease? I have been online for 3 hours without success.

I am not sure how long ago you posted this inquiry, there use to be two Hondurases British and Spanish Honduras.
San Pedro Sula is in Spanish Honduras known simply as Honduras and is located south of Belize ( Belize use to be known as British Honduras) neither country have anything to do with the other.
San Pedro Sula is the industrial capital of Honduras and is located on the North Coast of Honduras.
I would also suggest that you inquire where the nearest Honduran consulate is to you, you should be able to order birth certificates or death certificates through them.
Just take into account that going through a Honduran consulate may be tedious and they may want to charge you an arm and a leg and take ages to get anything done.
The records in Honduras are all still old school and stacked up on a shelf or filing cabinet.
Hopefully they were not damaged by hurricane Mitch.
What has resulted most effective is to actually have someone residing in Honduras go and apply for the needed documents then send them to the USA via some corier service.

You may ask hpow I know all of this :) My parents were from Belize and my siblings and I were born in Honduras and also lived part of our lives in Belize. best of Luck,
Andy
