I'm researching the POW camps of Gloucestershire and I am working on camp number 185 Springfield October 1944.
The camp has just opened with 1,140 Germans and 1,200 POLISH POW's.
The Poles were our allies so how is it possible to have so many as POW of ours? Their camp leader is a Lieutenant TAYTANANSWSKI. I have found no other camp with Polish POW'S in Great Britain and the following years report for april 1945 shows only Germans now in the camp.
I am confussed and need advice please.
