Are industrial engineers going to lose their jobs after eliminating middle management?


I'm an industrial engineering graduate student. these days i really get confused and don't know which major should i choose for my master's degree...although i'd like to continue my studies in IE and Operations Research, i'm deeply worried about the future of this field, some professors persuade me to switch to MBA or IT for my masters 'cause after developing flat organization model there will be no need for industrial engineer position.
what do you think about it?
