I would like to know if calcium chloride, in use to prevent/solve ice dams on my roof, if it would harm 1) my asphalt shingles, 2) my aluminum rain gutters.

I'm thinking of filling a long sock with pellets, and laying this on my roof, perpendicular to the eaves.
