I wonder if anyone could tell me about the RAF role in Malta in WWII? My Uncle died last year and I found out he flew for coastal command and that the planes had torpedo bombs and he attacked shipping. My impression was that he was in the siege.

The RAFs role in the seige was principally protecting the ships that fed supplies to the island, so fighters were what that was mostly about.
For most of the seige the RAF were struggling to manage that task, so I can't imagine torpedo bombers doing much. Spitfires were being transported there from British aircraft carriers to gradually bolster the defences to the point that they could go on the offense. Maybe he got involved as the RAF got the upper hand, went on the offensive and started starving Rommel?
