F-4 Phantom II

I was having a conversation with my AMT instructor and made the statement that I believed that the F-4 Phantom had the capability of being "Cart Started" when a -60 or Power/Air unit was unavailable...She refuses to believe it without more verification, which is irony since I worked RF-4C's for six years. But have no proof of that paticular provision.
Can anybody help either validate my claim or disprove it?

You are correct, you can start the F-4 Phantom with starter carts. I crewed the F-4E tail # 68-447 at Ramstein AFB Germany for two years. We used the carts on the alert pad for starting without having to use the -60s.

I knew I was correct...I just knew it. When were you at Ramstein? I was stationed at Bergstrom from 86-92, but traveled to Germany for a couple of deployments...We were at Zweibrucken. Spent some days at Ramstein with Herc's from Dyess...good times

I crewed E models from 1977 to 1985. We cart started them. We used big asbestos gloves to handle the carts and the breech. We had an E model burn to the ground at Seymour Johnson AFB because a cart exploded and threw pieces through one of the 370 tanks. The crew got out and no one was injured thankfully.

I was at Ramstein between 1976 and 1978 Now when I was in the North Carolina Air Guard I crewed C-130Bs and H's we went to Ramstein between 97-98 for a few weeks, I never thought you could put a C-130 where the F-4s use to be.

I remember a few time the seals around the aux air doors catching fire. The smoke that the carts put out sure did stink ha.ha.We had a pilot that while doing a high speed taxi skidded down the run way and half mooned the tire and wheel and brakes, that pissed off alot of people including me because I had to change the tire and brakestack while it was snowing.
