I took a young lady to Rigoletto last evening. She is an MD so a lady of considerable intellect and knowledge but she had never been to an opera. (She said she loved it and wants to come back)

She asked, "Why would Rigoletto not tell Gilda his or her name?"

I speculated that it was to ensure more security for her.
