I read that the city was incorporated in March 1854. Did the courthouse, where records were kept in 1854 burn down? My great great grandmother wrote that she was married on 4 July 1854 in Warsaw, IN but that the records had to be recorded in Washington DC. That seems an unreasonable distance to go to record a marriage.
