ALLSTARMOM
I have always known that the daddy that raised me is biologically not my "father". I have also always known who my father is and that he is Chippewa Cree. I have always claimed this ancestory as my own, but it has come to my attention that I really have no proof of this. This man has never really been part of my life even though I had established contact with him back in 1992. My daddy loved me very much and raised me as his own. We were very close and I would have never intentionally hurt him by implying that he was not my "real" dad. Therefor I never really pursued the connection to this other man even though there was always interest on my part. In November of 2007 my dad passed away. Since then I have become much more interested in learning about this connection to the Native people. My late grandfather was also of native descent, but again there was no biological connection to him either. I have not tried to contact this man again, however recently I was able to find him listed as a survivor in an obituary of his brother that I believe is a member based on where he lived, Havre. How do I find out if he is an enrolled member of the tribe? And how would I go about proving this connection and becoming a member myself?
