Wine bottle

I have a clay bottle that I believe is/was used to contain wine for drinking in the field. It appears to be made of clay and has a small bung (I think of wood) attached by a small lanyard. I believe the process of drinking from it constituted blowing into the bottle so as todisplace the wine because the opening is so small. the fact that it is made of clay makes it easy to maintain a lower temperature than otherwise would be encountered in the hot sun. Can anyone confirm, elaborate and identify the possible country of origin?
