I have a 52 268 cid engine in my HAMB dragster. I would like to raise the compresstion. How much can I cut off the head and still have clearance between the head and valves?

I would port and releave the head. Measure the lift on the valves then the clearance port bottom to outside gasket surface. Allow extra 20thousand for valve float. The gasket will give you extra also. before you machine the head.
Ask the machine shop to double check your calculations.
If i can remember about 60thousands is all you can get.
I hope i'm correct. A old hot rod builder can tell you.
I built V-8 ford flat heads. The fist one screamed in first gear then the valves floated and it lost power. Had to double the springs. Live and learn. Have fun.
