Delaware and Raritan Canal

I don't even know if anyone will see this, but I know the Delaware and Raritan Canal is 75 feet wide and 7-8 feet deep. What I would like to know is what the bottom looks like. For example, does it go out five feet from the side and then drop down to eight feet or does it drop down immediately?

I'm going to be fishing the canal and it would help to know what the profile of the bottom is.

Thanks,

Jim

The bottom I believe drops out immediately. Why are you going fishing there? You could always go fishing somewhere else where you know is safe. Because the canal might not be safe. Sorry if I sound strange.

Thanks for your comments.

I was in Princeton Saturday, behind Carnegie Lake. I had plans to fish the Millstone River, but the place I used to put the boat in was gated now and closed off. I asked about the canal and figured I'd give it a try. The path that goes along the canal was full of people. How is it dangerous there?
