I bought an old house and am doing some work to it. I am trying to replace the light fixture above the bathroom sink which also had a receptacle in it. There are 2 sets of wires coming out of the wall from behind where I removed the old light. I am trying to install the new light, and also run a separate receptacle to place in the wall. My voltage meters indicates the white wire is power (????). I have tried to hook the simple, new light fixture up to one set of wires, and I have no power. I then hooked the new light fixture up to the other set of wires and had power, but no control by the switch...the light would not turn off. I assume it should be hooked up to the first set of wires I tried, but I had no power to the fixture. Please help. This has got me scratching my head!
