I am left-handed. Recently the head (I hope I am using the right terminology) of the second toe (the one to the right of my big toe) of my right foot has periodically been experiencing pain. A bit of the nail had broken off and I thought that perhaps there was a minor infection in my toe. I applied Neosporin. The pain disappeared. Over the past 2 weeks it has occasionally reappeared, I have applied Neosporin and the pain has disappeared. Right now the head is throbbing a little. The pain seems to be concentrated at the left edge of the nail, but the throbbing reaches behind it to the end of the pad. The right side of the pad is pain-free.

Has anyone ever experienced this, or does anyone know what is causing this?
