I am a New Yorker currently living in Puerto Rico. On several occasions, local Puerto Ricans have told me that they were taught in school and believe that in 1917 Puerto Ricans were made citizens and drafted into military service and died , " My reading of the history of the 369th indicates it was a African American unit formed in NYS and, therefore, probably contained no one of Puerto Rican heritage. Can anyone comment or provide information on my question. i.e.," Did Puerto Rican American serve in the 369th or any other active duty unit in the European campaign in 1917 or 1918 during WWI?"
