I Would like more information about Johansen's legacy. As I was growing up, I was told that he was my great great uncle, referred to as Pader Johansen. My paternal grandmother was a Johansen, married to Charles Briggs, a coal miner from northern England. I was told that Pader Johansen was a navigator for Amundson until he quit the expedition over a disagreement with Amundson about the unnecessary risks the party was taking. Over the years, I was unable to find much information about him till now. Apparently, Amundson was successful in relegating him to obscurity.
