I have a type N4 515/00 35 watt Philips Reel to Reel.(Made in Australia) They are easy to use. Just select the tape speed and the track 1-3 or 3-2 or Stereo.I use the line out/in and connect to a amplifier. Select the line switch. Others are tuner/aux/phono
At the high speed of 19cm/sec the quality is amazingly good but I doubt any machines alive today can still record. Also the tape head needs cleaning with a cotton swab and methylated spirits almost daily. Reason is most of the old tapes are loosing their magnetic particles. Also the spring pushing the tape on to the tape head must also be strong enough or all the treble sounds disappear.

Sadly I have to throw mine out today as it has a motor problem. As it warms up it starts to slow down, ie drags the tape slower and slower and its a sealed unit so cant access the carbon brushes and groves in the commutator. First I thought it was the rubber drive belt but its definitely the motor. My parents bought this hifi tape in the 1970's. so its out the door, sadly. It may not even fit in the rubbish bin. Hope this is some help.

Regards.
