You ask is there a end to space. The answer is yes, but it is expanding as we speak. this means the area we are aware of has a density which is made up of a gas or element we cannot detect. Much like wind it is the movement of a unknown element, from a more dense area to a less dense area. Your question consist of several good points. The first is the speed of light. The speed of light is constant only in the space we are aware of. Light changes speed relative to the density of the area it is moving through. If light were to reach the edge of known space and enter a less dense enviroment it's speed would increase relative to the density of that enviroment. To enter a true void would result in infinate speed and zero time as a result of zero resistance or drag. If you were traveling through space and left the known space entering a true void you would disapear from the known space and instantly appear in the next dense space. this would require a recording device to record the change in enviroment. You must think of space as clouds floating through the unknown universe. You would in affect jump from one cloud to the next not knowing where you would come out each time you jumped from one cloud to the next unless you recorded the exact point you entered enabeling you to navigate back through the exact point to your origination point.

The new hubble lens reveals astronomical objects more than 13 billion lightyears away, if you buy into the theoretical math, before this discovery, it was thought the edge of the universe was some 3.5 billion years old. To state there is an end to space is making desicions without access to the variables. you are ofcourse correct about the variable speed of light, however new science has revealed light can be affected by temperatures, and other sources of light, and what little we know about the construct of any space. Its interesting to speculate about such things in the absence of so much information that would be required to make a valid statement about any of the elements of this forum. What saddens me is the new administration taking over the reigns of NASA, and ending; the new shuttle, Constellation, a return to either the moon or mars, in the near future, and the loss of more than 8,000 practical science positions that accompanied those projects. I am aware that science and basic economics are not the forta of the lawyers and the lobbyst who determine the direction our government takes and where the trillions are spent. The biggest concern I have is the fact that future defense and miitary stratagies are space bound, and NASA was the leading edge. This direction, combined with the plan to half our military and start up an inner city paramilitary is beyond my comprehension, when one considers the countries whose rulers don't have the freedom idealogy are increasing their military and space funding simultaneous to our backing down, inviting an inevitable confrontation, where we will be left without the assets to protect our way of life.
