Roland D-50

Hi. On my Yamaha S-90, I've learned how to create Templates in the Sequence Play mode. Within each Template I'm able to create up to 16 zones/splits, each zone being a different voice,or a layer of voices. I then can increase the size/note limit range of those zones by midi-ing another keyboard with the S-90 and then spreading those zones over both keyboards, and then storing that Template into memory. A Yamaha tech told me that this was also called "multi-mode" and he was quite sure that I could do exactly the same thing with my Roland D-50, although he couldn't tell me how. This surprised me because the D-50 is so old and I haven't seen anything in the D-50 owner's manual to indicate that you could do this. Yet he said that with any synth keyboard you could split it into as many zones as there are patch buttons on that keyboard. Is this possible with a D-50? I would greatly appreciate any instructions on how to do so.
