Hi,
I'm seeking definitive details of WW II Handley Page Halifax Mk II of 78 Squadron out of Breighton. It's Serial No. was LW301 and it's code EY-C.
I wish to do a painting of this aircraft for the son of the tail gunner, Flight Sergeant Keith Russell Miller. The aircraft was shot down during a raid over Kassell on 22/10/1943.
I would like to know the exact model details - Mk and series, turret, engine and vertical tailplane details.
I Thank you in anticipation.
Cheers
Brian Evans

Hi Brian
I have some information which might help , I know you may now have all the info as I am not sure when this was posted either the 8th of Feb or August the 2nd in Canada the month comes first in most cases , anyway if this helps I am only too glad to help , I actually modeled this exact aircraft several years ago from the old matchbox kit which is now on my web site if this helps , ,anyway the aircraft is an English electric built Halifax B Mk 2 seris 1a of which only 33 were built ( LW 223-LW 345 ) Aug - Oct 43 , and entered service the same year anywhere between Aug and Dec , the aircraft was fitted with four 1480 hp RR merlin 22 engines , front nose turret was deleted and a large perspex nose fitted with a single vickers K machine gun , upper dorsal was the low profile 4 gun type opposed to the larger Boulton paul of earlier marks , rear turret remained unchanged , vertical tail plane was of the large rectangular type which replaced the stall prone triangle ones , some were fitted with the H2S radome in the venteral position , the squadron I and guessing at this might have been No 102 squadron from Pocklington again my guess at that < Ihope this hase been of some help , if I help futher contact me at reader@mts.net.

Hi Brian
I really should look at the posting more closer , you already mentioned that it was from 78 squadron , which was actually Breighton and not Pocklington , too clever for my own good at times , anyway I did a little more digging around and I found much to my suprise that I have made that exact same aircraft EY-C LW 301 , It is on my web page believe it or not , I am not supposed to put web details on this forum , it is not that I am selling anything or promoting anything just a few photos of what models I have make over the years mainly WW2 , if you contact me at the e-mail I can pass it on that way if it helps , if not no worries , only here to help a fellow modeller .

Hi Again
Please excuse an old fool , well I feel like one , I mentioned earlier that I made the exact same aircraft well upon closer inspection I found it was in fact EY-F same sqd wrong airframe , and I also stated I was not selling anything from my web site , I did some time ago add a model for sale idea , but aling health with my hands ( Carpel tunnel ) killed that , so I just do it for fun , hands permitting , sorry for all that , I guess I just sound like a bumbleing idiot .

Hey there. I was seraching for Halifax production lists when this sight popped up. I too am interested in tracking down more information about a Halifax my Uncle flew in during the war. He was assigned to 78 Squadron and was shot down on the night of 30/31 August 1943. The strange part of this was his aircraft, Halifax JD453 also carried the squadron code EY C, same as the orignal posters aircraft.

I have located a picture of EY E taken three weeks after my Uncle was shot down and am of theunderstanding that she was a sister ship to my uncles.

I will be buildinga model this winter, 1/72 scale Airfix and doing her up as my Uncle's ship.
