Hi

I have a brand new apartments and I applied for electric service to Meralco. The Meralco engineer/inspector told us that the location of our apartments exceeds more than 30 meters from the existing meralco pole and he said that they need to install new poles and cost will be first shoulder by the consumer (us) and will be refunded to the consumer(us)after a year. the cost is more than 50 thousand pesos for two poles. my question is ; is it really the consumer need to should first the cost of the meralco pole?

Hoping for your early response.

thank you and more power.

I am not a meralco employee or stock holder whatever. I am a meralco customer with deeper knowledge of electric utility business. In other countries such as US, Canada, Germany, UK, Japan, etc. the condition of service approved by the regulatory agency of the country determine the standard practices such as the 30 meters distance from the power supply pole to the supply point where your electric meter is located. In exceed of 30 meters, an additional cost will be charge to the customer.
However, you can install your own pole 30 meters from meralco's supply point where your meter will be installed provided that the property where the pole will be installed is your property. This option is subject to the approval of Meralco inspector and the electrical inspector of the city.
