I am seeking information about a B-flat Hawkes fanfare (or herald) trumpet which I have just bought. I realise that the fact it was made by Hawkes means it must be at least 80 years old, since Hawkes merged with Boosey in 1930.
It is inscribed as follows:
Hawkes & Son
Makers
Jenman Street
Piccadilly Circus
London W.
60537
R.M.S.M. 09.
I know that R.M.S.M. is the Royal Military School of Music, and I wonder if "09." is the year of manufacture.

Boosey and Hawkes archives are no help - archives on Boosey instruments go back to 1864, but the Hawkes archives were destroyed during the war. I have tried the RMSM and the Royal Military Music Museum, but neither could help.

I would be grateful for anything anyone could tell me about this instrument.

Jack Doughty.

Several years ago I also purchased a Boosey & Hawkes Imperial Herald Trumpet #633070 on the island of Trinidad. I have been trying to locate a source for info regarding its year of manufacture and value. If you have located such a source I would appreciate your sharing this info. Thanks, Mitch Korbey
