Looking for any info on 'Henderson Family Name Mapping' in Scotland, and especially pre 'Ulster Plantation'. Where there any core family locations for the name? My family are 'Presbyterian Hendersons', renting from the Ironmongers estates in Londonderry, Ulster. This would make them very definitely from Scotland, and possibly the South West of Scotland. However, we do have a family legend that says 'we are from Glen Coe, and were the Standard Bearers for the McDonalds. How true this is I dont know? Highlanders where Catholics? So the family being Presbyterian, could make them 'lowlanders'?

Also anyone know anything about the type of people who came from Scotland to Ulster, what they brought with them, a resource I could read up on? Who where they? Where they all poor? Kind of ships they came over in ? How where they chosen?

I see following 'Glen Coe' and Highland Clearances, some Hendersons immigrated to Ulster? This again could mean 'my Hendersons ' could have come from Glen Coe? However, again the religion would be wrong?

The undertaker who oversaw the tenancies on the Ironmongers Estates was Sir Robert McClelland, who moved many of his own tenants to this new venture.
