Hello

what is the other ways to reduce the charging / refilling time besides increasing the pressure and speed.

with warm regards

Sahil Gupta be careful what you ask for. You can reduce the holding time by using chillers and running liquids through your mold, however increasing the fill rate or pressure increases the shear, with a resulting rise in temperature. Too high a temperature and you risk damaging the polymer and end products durabliltiy. Higher pressures can result in flash and even excess compression of a polymer. Even without flash you can increase the end product density leading to potentail warping of the final product or if nothing else higher costs for wasted materials.

If you are using the right materials, have designed the mold, runners and gates appropriately and have selected the right polymer the part will run at the rate the material will handle. A larger press with a larger bore is not the answer, the turn rate will be slower to compensate for the larger bore of the sprue and the shear effect will be lost. This will force higher temperatures in the bore and the risk of burning plastic on the screw and bore.

Need more product in less time, add more cavities to your mold so that the hold and fill time equate to more parts per event assuming you have a platen large enough to handle mutiple cavaties and your customer is willing to pay for the more complex mold.

For more engineering insight on plastic polymers consider some of the plastice engineering books on Amazon or check out the free magazine our commercial WEB site offers, you may find other answers there.
