Ammonia is reduced by both nitrification and de-nitrification.
Nitrification converts ammonia to nitrites then to nitrates.
Denitrification converts nitrates to nitrogen gas which dipels into the atmosphere.
In order to achieve nitrification you need to indroduce enough oxygen, preferably in at least 2 process stages.

Denitrification only occurs when there is a carbon source (organic matter0 in an anoxic zone. You ca achieve this by putting a slugde return from the final settlement tank back to the primary settlement tank. The amount of volume returned will depend on the degree of denitrification required.
