What is SmartLipo?
SmartLipo is a revolutionary new treatment developed to remove unwanted and hard-to-shift areas of body fat. It is essentially a liposuction procedure that is less invasive since it uses laser technology to break down the fat through the top layers of the patient's skin. The word laser is an acronym for 'Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation'. Lasers work by creating a powerful beam of light and heat that can be targeted to reach very specific areas. The treatment involves a handheld laser device being passed over the surface of the skin to target areas of fat underneath. The laser is used to liquefy fat deposits which are then removed through the body's natural processes during the following days, or through a small incision that the surgeon may choose to make.
How is it different from Liposuction?
SmartLipo is considered a 'non-invasive' fat removal procedure since no incisions into the body need to be made. It only requires the application of a local anesthetic to numb the area to be treated. This means there is also a quicker recovery time - some patients could be back to work the next day - and there is less scarring and swelling. In comparison, liposuction is described as a surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia. Both surgery and the requirement of general anesthesia carry various risks and complications which patients may want to avoid.
The laser in SmartLipo is also able to seal blood vessels as it works to remove fat and is believed to help tighten skin - resulting in a more toned appearance. This means there is generally less bleeding and bruising than with traditional liposuction and the overall appearance may be better. Surgeons may prefer using SmartLipo when they are presented with difficult areas of fat to remove since the laser tool helps them to target these areas with ease and precision. Patients who require only small areas to be treated may also prefer this method as it doesn't require having to undergo the surgical alternative of liposuction. However, the surgeon may recommend that a few sessions of SmartLipo be undertaken in some instances before the desired fat-removal is completed.
Also, in some cases, it is recommended that both liposuction and SmartLipo procedures are combined together to gain the desired results.
Would I be a good candidate for SmartLipo?
The most suitable candidate for SmartLipo is someone who is in good general health and practices a healthy lifestyle. They should be within 25lbs of their ideal weight and is someone who has good diet and exercise habits. They may have one or more areas of body fat deposits which have not responded to diet and exercise.
However, if you suffer from diabetes, liver or kidney disorders, blood disorders or autoimmune disorders, you will not be able to undertake this procedure.
What’s the recovery process like?
You are likely to feel minor discomfort for the first 24 hours after the procedure, though over-the-counter medication will remedy this. Bruising typically disappears after 2 to 3 days.
After 6-8 weeks, the patient will be able to see the results of the SmartLipo with skin becoming tighter and toned in appearance.
Once you have found professional Colorado Smart Lipo practitioners, make sure you clear up all of your doubts and questions before signing up for the procedure.
