Egg cruelty through factory farming

Just because the chickens don't die while producing eggs, are the battery cages not considered animal cruelty?

Some people and even vegetarians will eat eggs because they don’t see that as meat, the animal isn’t hurt when she produces the eggs, that’s where we are wrong, the hens are miserable their entire egg producing lives and the torture is extensive throughout their entire lives until they are dried up and sent to the slaughterhouse. The Humane Farming Association (HFA) if working on many issues, one current issue is the Stop the Rotten Egg Bill, they are fighting to keep hens out of battery cages, at one point people voted to get the hens out of the cages but the egg industry is challenging the bill and trying to pass a federal legislation (H.R. 3798 and S. 3239) that would establish egg factory cages as a national standard that could never be challenged or changed by state law or public vote (stoptherotteneggbill.org).
