I attended ESHI from 1st through 8th grade, 1956-1965. Being a teacher now, I can so appreciate ESHI, Rabbi Raiskin, the marvelous teachers and all the school had to offer. Reading about the glee club brings back Thursday after-school memories with Mr Budmor. How much we learned during one day of school.
One half of the day was Hebrew subjects, the other half was English. Included in our subjects was the New York Times. I can remember our English/History teacher leaving to adopt a baby and Rabbi Raiskin became our teacher. How he loved the New York Times. Daily we would go through the most important articles in the paper. To sum it up, looking back, it was an honor to attend that fine school. Ron Silver (he should rest in peace) was a wonderful example of some of the caring, compassionate, and intelligent human beings that began that spent their formative years at ESHI.
