During WWII (late 30's early 40's) my mother and I were resident in Bulawayo in what was then Southern Rhodesia. I was about 8 to 10 years of age. My father was serving with the allied forces in North Africa.

My mother was asked to look after a woman who was about to return to the UK for some reason. She appeared to be somewhat distraught in her behaviour.

Anyway, she eventually travelled by rail from Bulawayo to Cape Town and boarded the mailboat for Southampton. During the course of the voyage she apparently disappeared
from the boat and, as I understood at the time nothing was ever found of her.

I think that all this was reported in the local press.

Is anyone able to enlighten me on anything about this incident?

I am Desmond Roy now in New Zealand and my email address is:
