Can anyone with knowledge of this component advise how critical it is to the running of the engine.

My 996 is not running at all well and I believe that I have isolated the problem to the Atmospheric Pressure Unit that is fitted on top of the coolant bottle (right hand side below the steering head).

I have priced a replacement unit from the agents and nearly had a heart attack !!
