When I dropped out of High-School a few years back I immediately began to stay up at night. I was already accustomed to the habit due to my dad working third shift on the weekends. (He was sometimes strict on bedtime, it was a rebellious thing lol)

Well I'll be 20 years old in July and I am ready to start a life with my girlfriend of almost 3 years. The problem is that habit has come to bite me in the %&\*. My symptoms aren't exactly what I have read from articles I have googled.
My symptoms are.

. Trouble getting myself to go to bed. When I do go to bed, I have trouble falling asleep, often taking at least an hour to fall asleep (I always envied my father for being able to pass out in 1 minute lol). The REAL problem is getting myself to WANT to go to sleep.

. I constantly feel like my day isn't done yet, so I get very reluctant to sleep. I read that not being satisfied with your day can be a cause of insomnia but no one has gone into enough details for me to go "Yeah that's exactly what I mean".

. They say it's lack of sleep but my problem isn't really lack of sleep itself, it's the habit itself and the timeline it follows. When I get to sleep I then continue to sleep uncontrollably... sometimes up to 18 hours. Naturally you would think "Well if you stay up longer than you need your going to sleep more"... problem with that is, I have been forcing myself to get up at 11:00 AM the last week and still I stay up till 3:00 AM, STILL I continue to sleep uncontrollably after that.

I noticed that when I have a fun day, a day I can say that made me truly happy, getting myself to sleep then becomes less of a problem. So, is it Psych? Chronic Insomnia? Some kind of other sleeping condition? Or a combination of the above?

This is important to me, my girl demands that I get this habit under control or things between us won't go well, and she's right. If and When I get a job, and don't take care of this, it will cause serious problems in my life.

Plz help me, anyone.

See the common problem I DON'T have is lack of alertness, after I wake up, I am very alert and can concentrate.

A friend hit it right on the nose. OCD. Evidently, I do have insomnia, but the part of me that refuses to go to sleep is the OCD. In other words I literally won't rest until I have great day lol.
