Dante Purgatorio XVIII mentions the appointment of St Zeno's abbot, and it is believed that it was Alberto I, Lord of Verona (served as lord 1277 to 1301), who appointed his son as abbot(possibly Guiseppe who died in 1314). Dante indicates that the son was unworthy of the position, citing the appointment as an example of a form of "accidie" (sloth).

Is anyone aware of this son Alberto I, Guiseppe, who became Abbot of Zeno and the events regarding this matter. Dante started writing Purgatorio, I think, in 1305, so this story must have been a recent event.

Thanks, D
