Currently I have custody of mine, and my ex's son. He has visitation and access which is pretty much shared equally between us but ultimately I have final say about where our son lives, goes to school, religion, etc.

I have met a man from the U.S (we live in Canada) and I am wondering how to go about moving to the States with my son.

Do I need a lawyer? Do I need to go through the whole court process all over again? Do I need my ex's permission to leave the country and live in America? What kind of custody orders are available to people who have a child but live in separate countries?
