I have always believed sweet toppings on crumpets taste the best I have tried melted cheese and it doesnt compare to strawberry jam.
So sweet is the only option for me.

Dear fellow crumpeteer,
I am in the personal opinion that the crumpet should be beclothed in nothing but sweet sweet goodness. whether this comes in the form of jam, butter or my personal favorite 'man juice'.
