Can anyone tell me why Philip Schuyler bought thousands of acres of land in Montgomery County, VA? What did he need it for? Wasn't there enough land nearby in New York State or Vermont?
I am currently researching another family of large landholders and came across the reference. What made this particular piece of property so valuable when it was so far away from him or from any means of transporting out whatever natural resources were there?
