Can anyone help. Recently picked up a Sharps carbine. This rifle was used by the 10th Penna. Volunteers in the Civil War. After the war it was sent back to Sharps and refitted to shoot cartridges. It was then issued to the 10th Cav. Buffalo Soldiers. The stock is marked 10th Cav. Maybe going to and Indian scout. Anybody help on this?

The carbine you have is most likely an 1859 model and converted to 50/70 calibre. I have one though mine is stamped on the barrel just forward of the breech, that stamping being, it would appear pretty much standard as the exact stamping is shown in a book I have. History of the 10th Cavalry is on line though I received very little response or interest when trying the various Buffalo Soldier's organisations. I had an aquantince here in Australia, a recognised expert on the American Civil research the various units the carbine was/could have been used.
