Hendon
Can anybody help me with information on overwing serials on pre-war Ansons? So far I have only found photographs of 48 sqd., despite having a large reference library, including pre-war copies of Flight/Aeroplane. I would like to complete my Classics Airframe kit with the colourful markings og 269 sqd. (K6321) This squadron was one of the first so equipped (late 1936), but all of the references merely state that "many of the early production aircraft had overwing serials applied", which is of little help!
I grew up near to RAF Hendon, and in the mid fifties Ansons would fly over our house all day long. So common that they were treated like weeds! Later, when married, I moved next to RAF Bovingdon, the last home for the Anson, and again barely bothered to look up when they trundled overhead. Why, oh why, didn't I photograph them when I had the chance? After all I did photograph everything else! Sic Transit Gloria!
