CAUSES OF INCREASE IN HEAT IN KERALA

LAST YEAR KERALA WAS SCORCHING BECAUSE OF THE INCREASE IN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE. TEMPERATURES WERE HIGHER THAN AVERAGE AND LIFE FOR COMMON PEOPLE WAS UNBEARABLE.

THE REASONS FOR THE RISE IS TEMPERATURE WAS MANY. AMONG THEM ARE:
1. RAPID URBANIZATION
2. INDISCRIMINATE FELLING OF TREES
3. UN-SCIENTIFIC MINING OF NATURAL RESOURCES - RIVER SAND, LATERITE MINING THUS CHANGING THE TOPOGRAPHY

I AM SUGGESTING ONE ASPECT OF THESE AND MORE REASONS.

IT MAY BE REGIONAL PERTAINING TO TOWNS AND CITIES AND YET IT MAY AFFECT THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES ALSO .

CONSTRUCTION OF HUGE APARTMENT BLOCKS IN ALMOST ALL PLACES, ESPECIALLY IN CITIES AND SUBURBS. ADD THE FACTS THAT MOST OF THESE MULTI-STORY BUILDINGS ARE CONSTRUCTED AS AN ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT, NOT AS A MEANS TO REDUCE THE HOUSING SHORTAGE !

WHEN WE BUILD AN MULTISTORY BUILDING, YOU ARE AFFECTING THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS.

SUN RADIATES ABOUT 1000 WATTS OF HEAT PER SQUARE METER OF THE EARTH'S SURFACE. HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THE EARTH WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNINHABITABLE DESERT- MUCH LIKE THE SAHARA DESERT !

WHEN WE CONSTRUCT A MULTISTORY BUILDING, WE ARE INCREASING THE AREA OF SUN'S REFLECTION.

A MULTISTORY BUILDING 30 METER HIGH AND MEASURING 40M x 90 M, WILL HAVE A TOTAL SURFACE AREA OF 108,000 SQ.M. CONSIDERING ONLY HALF THE SURFACE AREA, THERE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL HEAT OF 54000 KILOWATT HEAT RADIATING OUT OF THE BUILDING SURFACE !

THIS HEAT IS DISSIPATED IN THE SURROUNDING AREA, OBVIOUSLY INCREASING THE TEMPERATURES.

CAN SOMEBODY IMAGINE OR CALCULATE HOW MUCH SURFACE AREA OF THE EARTH IS INCREASED BECAUSE OF THE URBANIZATION - WHICH INCLUDES ALL THE BUILDING AND ALL THE CONCRETE HOUSES, NEWLY BUILD.

IS THERE ANY SUCH STUDY CONDUCTED BY ANY ONE, INCLUDING THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS?

I WOULD SUCH A DISCUSSION BE TAKEN UP AND SUGGESTIONS TO REDUCE THE HEAT RADIATION ARE SUMMARIZED AND IMPLEMENTED DURING CONSTRUCTION STAGE ITSELF.
