Last time I heard Butch was working as a fireman for the city of West Sacramento, CA.

Incidentally, I umpired high school, college, and adult baseball for over 30 years in the Sacramento area and I can attest that no other pitcher I ever called ball/strikes for threw as hard a ball as Butch. I probably umpired for about a dozen former major league pitchers and nobody brought it like he did. You prayed that the batter didn't foul it straight back, because either the catcher or umpire was going to wear it. If a batter dug in on him or crowded the plate, poor guy would soon be the target of a vicious fastball headed for his torso. Ouch.......doesn't even come close to the pain, the batter incurred. Needless to say, they didn't make that mistake a second time. Overall a great guy off the field, a real fierce competitor between the lines.
