For now genetic modified foods is safe for all age groups as there been no sever health risks. However the biotechnology and agricultural industries, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and many respected scientists state that genetically modified foods are safe and “substantially equivalent” to non-modified foods. They point out that we have been eating genetically modified food for years with no evidence of serious problems. However, many other respected scientists state that there are too many unknowns, and that studies have not been done on the impact of genetically modified foods on humans, other species and the environment.

Currently there are no know side effects on GM food thus it would be safe to say that it is safe for all age groups. Currently most of the food (mostly staple food) that we take are Generically Modified so as to meet the demand for food and it is save to say that we have been eating GM food for all of our lives. However, like what cherylie say, there are still lots of things that have yet to be discovered so we also cannot be absolutely sure that it is safe.

Currently, it is not known if GM food affect different age group differently. However, in general, there are benefits and risks of GM food.

Some important benefits are:
-Modified plants are able to withstand extreme weather (e.g. strawberries that do not freeze in extremely cold weather). This means that less plants are destroyed thus increase the food supply.
-Higher nutritional value (e.g. carrots with more antioxidants)
-Crops that are resistant to diseases and insects. This will allow farmers to eliminate the use of pesticides to ensure crops are not attacked by insects or pests. This will help reduce the pollution caused by pesticides and insecticides.
-Enhanced taste

Despite the benefits there are some risks that consumers should take note of.

Some important risks are:
-New allergens could be created (e.g. a person who is allergic to brazil nut will also be allergic to soybeans if a gene from the brazil nut is inserted into the soybean)
-Growing GM crops on a large scale may implications on biodiversity, the balance of wildlife and the environment
-MOST IMPORTANTLY, health effects. Minimal research has been conducted to into the potential acute or chronic health risks of consuming GM food. Currently, there are no known long-term risks of consuming GM food.

After listing a few benefits and risks, it is difficult to determine whether GM food is safe or not. Instead, it is up to an individual to decide for his own health.

In my opinion,GM food was a trend. Since this technology was not fully unlock and there was not enough scientific proof that the product was totally safe to consume. It just like an experiment where we still judging for the conclusions. So, are we willing to take risk as an experiment subject?
