In the beginning of the book, when Andrew must leave his sister behind, knowing that Valentine's husband will replace Andrew as her companion, he realizes that his sister had all along been his lover. (Not literally, but bear with me; she was merely his only surviving loved one left in his life)

Conversely, Miro learns thanks to Andrew that his lover, Ouanda, was actually his sister.
