The planet is obviously older than six thousand years. To think otherwise is foolish.
The six thousand year mark is more about civilization than it is about the age of the planet. As far as mankind is concerned, except in science, the world before civilization began is fairly unimportant. Around six thousand years ago we became men and stopped being mere animals. Perhaps this is when God gave us our first souls, perhaps this is when we were finally smart enough to begin to contemplate God. Who knows? Modern science doesn't study our species through the eyes of faith and secular humanism will never understand God or His purposes.
if you are trying to argue that both things cannot be true then I would tell you...you propose nothing in the sight of God. He can do what He wants and does. If you choose not to believe He can, that's your problem.

writing didn't appear in the region where the bible stories come from until about 4000 BCE (some think it was a little earlier, but not much) Before then, stories were oral traditions told around campfires and hearths. No one could really know how old these tales were or really where they came from.
When they began to write them down, they required references so, they guessed and went as far back as they could. Remember, there were no records before Sumer rose. The tales of Eden and the Ark and the Flood...who knows how old they were before they were written. The writers guessed. They couldn't know anything about the true age of the planet itself.
according to geological records, sea bottom cores and things like that...the Flood/Noah story probably dates from around 9 to 10 thousand years BCE in the Black SEa region and Eden might come from well over 15 thousand years BCE and describe leaving Africa and crossing the great mideast deserts into India and China

Hello drew what is the difference of days between the creation of adam and the creation of earth?
However i came to know this fact through my own classroom textbook which is also taught in some christian school in our area. If the fact were wrong why dont the christian church here protest against the book?
From another sourci i have come to know that the time of creation of the earth according to bible has been measured to 9 AM.

Unfortunately I cannot cite the source, but I recently came across the information that the universe is around 14.7 - 15 billion years old, with the earth being around 8-10 billion years. I do not fully remember the details as to how they estimated that number, so I'm not vouching for this information or its sources.

It's a billion years old. When God created heaven and earth (Gen 1:1) it was billion years ago before the re-creation of earth as it begins in Gen 1:2. The earth as stated in Genenis 1:1 was perfect and has life probably the so called ancient plants and the dinosaurs live with the (one third of) angels who ruled by Lucifer until they rebelled with his Creator - GOD. True enough the findings of scientists that age of universe was billion years old. True enough also the age of dinosaurs was million years old. True enough that one day of God in the (re)creation is thousand years. Thus the original creation as stated in Gen 1:1 has no definite time.

The earth is 4.5 billion years old. The universe is anywhere from 8-12 billion.
